Making time for reflection + visioning

August 2025

This photo captures the feeling of mid-August for me. A soft, relaxed expansiveness and a heightened perspective that lets us survey what’s ahead and reflect on what’s behind. The contentment of having arrived at a peak and also a looming awareness that it will soon be time to head back down.

Have you given yourself an opportunity to pause and take the long view lately? It’s so easy to get tangled up in the trees and forget to step back and take a good look at the forest.

With September’s get-up-and-go energy quickly approaching, now is a great time to stretch out into some reflecting and visioning. Scroll down for a few exercises that I have found helpful.

If you are excited by the prospect of envisioning a new path forward for yourself and could use some guidance, camaraderie, and support along the way, my upcoming program, Alexa’s Energy Incubator, is designed to provide time, space, and resources for deep reflection and transformative action.

Curious? I invite you to join me over zoom on Monday, August 18 at 8pm EST to walk through the program, receive a mini-chakra clearing, and ask any questions. This will be the last orientation session before the early bird discount expires on August 20th and registration closes on September 1st. I hope to see you there!

Writing for visioning

If you’re trying to make some changes in your life, writing out your desires and demands can be a powerful tool. I like how the philosopher Epictetus put it: “First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.”

Do you have a vision of “what you would be” without your current limiting beliefs, circumstances, habits, or entanglements? Pick up a pen in a quiet space (write by hand to access heart energy) and conjure up the qualities of your highest self. Write freely and let yourself be surprised by what comes out.

When that picture starts to come into focus, turn your attention to the present: Am I showing up authentically for myself and others? Taking good care of myself? Do my day-to-day choices reflect my values and priorities? If not, what is holding me back? What is in my way? Bringing curiosity and attention to these questions starts to get energy moving. Notice any sensations arising in the body and write those down, too.

I share more practices that engage the healing power of writing here.
