At what threshold are you standing?
Dec 29, 2025
Irish poet and mystic John O’Donoghue wrote, “To change is one of the great dreams of every heart — to change the limitations, the sameness, the banality, or the pain.”
Limitations, sameness, banality, pain. An uncomfortably incisive summary of the human condition!
Fortunately we don’t always experience life in that way. However, if you’re starting to feel a bit of that itchy, restless, constriction, it may be an indication that some personal growth or expansion is at hand. When nothing quite fits or feels right in your life at the moment, it’s a perfect time to get quiet, go inward, and do some listening.
O’Donoghue poses some prompts, below, that are perfect for this kind of personal accounting, especially as we face the symbolic threshold of a fresh new year. I recommend sitting down with a pen and paper, getting quiet and centered, and noticing what your intuitive voice has to say:
At which threshold am I now standing?
At this time in my life, what am I leaving?
Where am I about to enter?
What is preventing me from crossing my next threshold?
What gift would enable me to do it?
I hope you receive some fruitful guidance. And if you are feeling drawn to this kind of self-inquiry and would like being part of a supportive group of like-hearted people exploring deep questions with compassion, intuition, and a bit of humor, registration for Alexa’s Energy Incubator is open for one more day. We kick off on January 4th, and I would love for you to be a part of it. More details here.
Many thanks for reading, listening, sharing, and trusting me with your heart this year. It means a lot to me, and I don’t take it lightly. My best wishes for a light-filled year ahead!
